Snow Days!

Jan 29, 2014 by

Don’t you miss when you were in school and you had those snow days? Here in the South, even the smallest bit of white on the ground and everything was closed! Of course, when I lived in Virginia and New York, it took a lot more snow to close schools there. But when they were closed we spent the entire time outside playing in snow! Snowball fights, sledding, snow angels, snowmen. I really miss being a kid sometimes. Especially today. Even with snow I am at work. Why can’t I still be a kid?

Of course this weather is affecting pretty much everyone here in America, darn Leon. How is the weather where you live?

2014 Goals

Go back to school
I’d like to go back to school and finally get my Master’s degree. I’m not sure what to get it in yet, whether I’ll get my Master’s in English or in Library Science. It’s just been so long since I’ve been in school, it’s kind of a scary thought.

Save more money
Aside from building my savings, I also want to build my retirement fund. I want to start an IRA, probably a Roth, so I can start saving for retirement. Social Security will probably be nonexistant by the time I retire and I do not want to work for the rest of my life. At least, not more than I have to. So unless I win the lottery, this is a must. The sooner, the better.

Pay down debt faster
I have some credit cards that I still need to pay off, as well as my car. I have about 3 1/2 years left on the car. But I’m more worried about the credit cards. I don’t use them anymore, thank God, but I want them mostly paid off by the end of the year. The holidays always kill me.

Blog consistently
I’ve been doing this pretty well for the past couple of months and I want to keep that momentum going this year. Hopefully at least 2 quality posts per week. Wish me luck! ;)

I had a pitiful showing last year. I only managed to read 50 books. For me, that’s pretty ridiculous. The past couple of years the numbers of books I’ve been reading is decreasing, but I want that to change. So, I’m hoping to at least double last year’s goal in 2014 and make it 100 books, if not more. I’m hoping that participating in these reading challenges, as well as some books clubs on the message boards I’m a part of will help me with that. I feel unaccomplished if I don’t read more. Must be the English major in me.

Travel
I want to travel more! All I did last year was take a 5 day cruise. I used to travel a whole lot more years ago. I want to do more of that this year. I have a cruise planned for November, hopefully I’ll be able to go. But I also want to be able to do something else. I want to go on at least one other trip. I don’t want to regret not traveling when I’m too old to do it. I’m young, I should enjoy it!

What are your goals or resolutions for 2014?

The busiest time of year

Nov 22, 2013 by

Hey guys! Sorry for practically dropping off the face of the earth. I was busy both trying to write and trying to to everything else. Yeah, it’s not going really well. I feel like every November I try to do Nanowrimo, but then all of a sudden I have 50 million other things to do as well. :( It’s the holidays that trip me up, I think. Thanksgiving is next Thursday. I’ll be working but that’s ok, I traded working that day for having Christmas off this year. :) So food is being planned for that. Then we have Christmas and shopping!

Since I now have both a full time job and a part time job, most shopping will be online. It’s so much easier anyway. I have my sister done and I already know what I’m getting my brother, it’s my parents and brother-in-law that are giving me trouble. I hate to give out gift cards, but if I can’t come up with ideas I may be forced to do it. :( I just need ideas as to what they want! But everyone is being difficult.

Aside from those gifts, I’m also working on hand-made gift bags for my coworkers as well as my Secret Santa package hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I already brought a couple of books, I just need to pick up a few more things for the package and box it up to sent. The gift bags for my co workers are already decorated, I just need to pick up a few more things to put in them as well. I’ll have to share pictures of everything soon.

What are you guys doing to get ready for the holidays?

Gone way too long and Quick Quotes #8

Sep 14, 2013 by

I’m soooo sorry. I was gone for way too long. I guess I sort of ran out of gas for a while there. I apologize and I’ll try to be much better in the future. My job has been very crazy this past year. We’ve been short on good, permanent employees so the rest of us have had to pick up the slack. It’s not fun at all. :(

Regardless I hope to be here, posting more often. I’ve been reading more books, and watching more movies and shows to talk about. Fall is coming as well. It’s my favorite time of year and I can’t wait for it. I also have a cruise coming up next week. I can’t wait for that as well. I need a vacation! So I’ll have some to things to share when I come back from that. Maybe pictures…if I don’t spend the whole time by the pool. ;)

Hopefully this is the start of a more productive and prolific blog.

1984 and The Hunger Games

1984 and The Hunger Games

Image from Goodreads

Sorry, guys! It’s been a bit busy at work and slow in my personal life. Lol. So not much to really post about. This weekend, there’s not much going on either. I have some chores to catch up on and I also bought a new book. It’s 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. It’s title is a play on Orwell’s 1984 which I haven’t read yet. So I decided to read Orwell’s version first and then read 1Q84. I’m going to get started on that today in between cleaning and laundry. :)

Speaking of books. A movie based on a book is coming out on DVD this weekend! If you haven’t guessed what I’m talking about, it’s The Hunger Games! I will definitely be picking up this movie this weekend as well. I loved this book series and the first movie was amazing as well. Can’t wait to get it tomorrow!

I guess between the books and the movie I’m in a dystopian society kind of mood at the moment. lol What about you guys? Are you fans of dystopian books and movies? If so, what are some of your favorites?

I’m Back!

I’m Back!

Original Image by Gavin Spencer

I’m back from my way-too-short vacation! I actually came back Friday afternoon but I had to unpack that day and then I spent all of Saturday doing laundry and getting ready for work on Sunday. *sigh* I’m ready for another vacation already. As I mentioned, I was in Orlando for the first few days for a family reunion. It was great to see the family that we don’t normally get to see during the year. I spent most of the time with my aunts, my brothers sisters, and their families. There were so many kids! lol Honestly, it just reminds me that I’m not ready for any of my own. Even if they were adorable…while asleep.

We basically did a little sight seeing and we spent a lot of time bowling or at Dave and Busters. That place was amazing! I’m so upset that the closest one to me is actually 2 1/2 hours away. :( We also went to this great little interactive CSI exhibit. It was called CSI: The Experience. It was so cute. Our group got a ‘crime’ to solve and we went to the crime scene and the different labs to try to find the cause of death and suspects. Then you enter your information in a report and figure out if you were right.

After the family reunion was over, which was Tuesday, I drove up to Hinesville to stay with my sister for a couple of days. If you’ve never been there, let me just say that you really don’t need to. lol I love to visit my sister but it’s so boring there! It is close to Savannah, so that’s nice. But driving there everyday is just not feasible. But we hung out and went to see the movie ‘Ted’, so it was still fun. Then I had to drag my reluctant butt back home so I could go back to work. I don’t know when I’ll be able to take my next vacation, but hopefully it will be soon.
